
The American Cancer Society hosted the 29th annual California Spirit at the Pacific Design Center on Sunday, July 28th. The event featured some greatest culinary creations from some of the best resataraunts in Los Angeles as well as some of the finest reserves from the best California wineries. The Foundry on Melrose, Hotel Bel-Air, Matsuhisa Beverly Hills, Nonna of Italy, Osteria Mozza, Patina Restaurant and Wolfgang Puck Catering were just some of the participating restaurants and the wine list included some of the finest reserves from wineries like Jim Palmer’s Malibu Vineyards, Revel Wines, Barrymore Wines and Bonny Doon Vineyard, to name a few.
Founded in 1984 by Master Chef Wolfgang Puck, Barbara Lazaroff and Sherri Lansing, the California Spirit has raised over $15 million for the American Cancer Society and continues to be one of the years most anticipated philanthropic food and wine events in Los Angeles. Co-hosts and co-founders Barbara Lazaroff and Sherri Lansing honored thyroid cancer survivor Brooke Burke-Charvetat.
The American Cancer Society has been going strong for nearly a century now. From the early 1990’s to about 2005 alone, they were able to bring a 15 percent decrease in the overall cancer death rate, helping to prevent over 650,000 deaths with the help of cancer research provided by supporters.
