The First Annual Derby Day LA

It was a beautiful spring day in Los Angeles when Derby Day LA came to Southern California. The celebrities came out to raise money for charity and have a Kentucky Derby experience second only to the legendary Churchill Downs. As the “Get Down Boys” played  an amazing selection of bluegrass music, hundreds of Southern California residents enjoyed the fashion and ceremony of the Kentucky Derby. There was an open bar that included Mint Juleps, hand crafted artisanal Kentucky Whiskey from Woodford Reserve, Don Julio tequila and beer from Peroni brewery.
The guests enjoyed coverage from the race as well as gourmet southern comfort food. Other sponsors at the event were VOSS Water, Van Nuys Jeep and Los Angeles Magazine.

Celebrities such as Camille Grammer (Real Housewives of Beverly Hills), James Anderson (Linebacker from the New Orleans Saints), Dennis Haskins (Principal Belding from Saved By The Bell), Carissa Rosario (Model), Leslie Birkland (Big Rich Texas), Jasmine Dustin (Being Mary Jane), DJ Rich Rubin (KROQ) and many more took photos with horses surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Malibu. The group gathered together to watch the “Running of the Roses” on an oversized LED board in addition to HDTVs throughout the event.

A portion of proceeds from ticket sales benefit both Canter California, an organization dedicated to transitioning thoroughbred racehorses off the track into new careers and RideOn, a charity that teaches adaptive horseback riding to children and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities.
This was the first annual Derby Day LA and the Experience Magazine is looking forward to covering next years event.
