The New Wilshire Grand in Downtown Los Angeles


(EXPERIENCE MAGAZINE) DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES, CA ~ The CEO of Korean Airlines, Mr. Yang-ho Cho, unveiled his $1 billion dollar skyscraper on Friday night. The Wilshire Grand Center (WGC) that was unveiled is the tallest building West of the Mississippi river. It features a 900 room InterContinental Hotel, luxury dinning options, and a seventh floor pool that is ideal for events. Coming in at 1,100 feet, the building sits in a unique and central location in downtown Los Angeles.

The EXPERIENCE MAGAZINE was invited to attend the opening of the luxurious Wilshire Grand Center on Friday, June 23rd. Cho Yang-ho himself hosted the event with 800 of his co workers, family and friends. The Wilshire Grand Center will revitalize the downtown Los Angeles area with 900 high end hotel rooms, up scale bars, restaurants and destination office space that will be occupied by LA’s top business people. The space does not disappoint. The fifth, sixth and seventh floor foyer areas are perfect for Hollywood style red carpet events. There are ballrooms that can accommodate hundreds of people comfortably and plenty of space for caterers to prepare gourmet food offerings.

The huge crowd in attendance enjoyed a glass of wine in the foyer before being invited in to dine in the main ballroom. Giant projection screens were the backdrop for for dancers to perform with music provided by Hey Mr DJ. The gourmet food came from the upscale restaurants located on the top floors of the building.

Mr. Cho got up to the podium and talked about giving back to the city of Los Angeles. The 800 guests were enthusiastic in their applause for Los Angles’ new number one destination for upscale events. The building is an architectural marvel in its size and design.

As the evening went on, guests were invited upstairs to see the top three floors. The lobby of the InterContinental Hotel is on the 70th floor. The lobby has a breathtaking view of LA Live and downtown Los Angeles. A spiral staircase leads guests up to the 71st floor where the top-tier La Boucherie serves high-end French fare and rare times.

La Boucherie on 71 is an amazing space. There are views from every window. This restaurant features a classical designed bar with space for live bands, a huge wine cellar and a private room with a unique dining table and gorgeous city views.

Up on the 73rd floor is Spire 73. Having the unique distinction of being the highest outdoor bar, Spire 73 is an amazing and incredible place to experience. This will be the location of some of Hollywoods most exclusive parties and events. There are private and VIP areas and amazing views from every window.

After visiting the top of Wilshire Grand Center (WGC), guests were invited to the seventh floor pool areas. Chairman Cho milled around with guests and shook hands with party goers. When Chairman Cho throws a party, he pulls out all the stops and was very approachable to meet and speak with anyone.

The Wilshire Grand Center is destined to be the top downtown Los Angeles location for events and upscale accommodations. The EXPERIENCE MAGAZINE looks forward to attending many events here in the years to come.
