Discovering Home: A Cozy Culinary Journey at Aroma Café

(EXPERIENCE MAGAZINE) — Santa Monica, CA — The Experience Magazine recently visited Aroma Café, a delightful spot known for its warm ambiance and vibrant yellow decor. The café is always buzzing with life, especially when we stopped by for late lunch on a Monday afternoon. There was often someone speaking Serbo-Croation while we dinned. The small market features an array of cookies, soup mixes, and cheeses from the market shelves. The back hallway features a gallery of news articles and celebrity photos taken in the restaurant over the years.

During our visit, we enjoyed a refreshing orange beverage called Orangina, which is packed with fiber and requires a good shake before sipping. We also sampled mineral water sourced straight from the ground in Bosnia called Radenska, offering a taste of authenticity.

While some opted for a vegan lunch featuring marinated peppers in olive oil and garlic, Irwin tried the delicious KEFIR drink, a yogurt-based refreshment that he thoroughly enjoyed.

Spinach burek. so flakey

We also tried the Ajvar sauce which is a red pepper/egg plant dish. So tasty.

We couldn’t resist trying the Shopska salad, a delightful mix of cucumbers, onions, and tomatoes, all dressed in a simple yet flavorful oil and vinegar dressing.

Refreshing drink

Our server, Tibet, originally from Turkey, added to the welcoming atmosphere as we joined other locals seeking a taste of home.

The highlight of our meal was the spinach burek, a savory pastry filled with cheese that was simply delicious. Aroma Café feels like a cozy mom-and-pop restaurant where cleanliness and home-cooked goodness reign supreme.

Owner Amra Slipac stopped by to chat and ensure we had everything we needed, making our experience even more special. With its inviting vibe and hearty fare, we’re already looking forward to our next visit!
