(EXPERIENCE MAGAZINE) — Santa Monica, CA — On the evening of Friday, October 11, 2024, Rabbi David Baron’s Temple of the Arts at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills kicked off Yom Kippur with a poignant Kol Nidre service. This event marked the beginning of the High Holy Days, a time for reflection, repentance, and communal gathering for the Jewish community. The following day, Saturday, October 12, the temple hosted Yom Kippur services starting at 9:00 a.m. This two-day observance brought together the community through a series of thought-provoking discussions and inspirational speakers, underscoring the importance of this sacred time in Jewish tradition.
Among the notable speakers at this year’s event was Oz Davidian, who shared his harrowing experience of rescuing 120 young people from a Hamas terrorist attack during the Nova Music Festival in Israel on October 7, 2023. Yossi Levy recounted his family’s evacuation from Northern Israel amid ongoing Hezbollah rocket attacks, painting a vivid picture of the challenges faced by many in the region. These personal stories of survival and resilience highlighted the pressing realities that many individuals faced, making this Yom Kippur particularly significant in light of recent events.
Rabbi David Baron curated a lineup of esteemed guests who contributed to the services and discussions. Notably, Bishop Juan Carlos Mendez addressed the issue of anti-Semitism and social justice during the Kol Nidre service.
