The Experience Magazine recently got a chance to interview Cosmo and Nathalia Gaviria of Glam Squad and BLACK. Both are clothing stores on Melrose avenue. These stores are the heart of Melrose fashion. Interesting and amazing looking designs. Cosmo is at the center of cutting fashion for super stars and regular people. He designs beautiful clothing for men and women. A Coachella going celebrity could stop by or just anybody. There are amazing looking crowns and helmets. Items that are rarely available to the average consumer. A lot of the items at BLACK are what you would find at a Pre Oscar celebrity gift suite. But its the simple things that BLACK does so well. A stylish baseball cap that just has the word FUCK written on it. Cosmo has a wicked sense of humor and it shows.
“BLACK like the president.” Cosmo says with a devilish grin. Cosmo and Nathalia make a great partnership. They have the kind of friendship where Nathalia can finish a sentence for Cosmo.
The Experience: Who are some of your influences?
Cosmo and Nathlia: (together) Rick Owen, Mary Tyler Moore, Farrah Fawcett and Grace Jones.
The Experience: What is BLACK all about?
Cosmo and Nathalia: BLACK is chic. Glam Squad, our other store, is more Fight Club.
The Experience: What is something that would surprise people to know?
Cosmo: In New York City, the gay guys wear fashion. The straight guys go to the Gap. But in Los Angeles, the gay guys go to the Gap and Abercrombie and Fitch. The straight guys wear fashion. The pretty guy is the straight guy in LA.
Cosmos: Everybody comes to BLACK and Glam Squad.
Cosmos and Nathalia showed me photo after photo of Nikki Minaj, Beyonce and Kim Porter all rocking that fabulous deconstructed over the top look.
Cosmos: We’ve worked with EVERYBODY! I’m an image consultant and I do artist development. We’re always working with new people.
Nathalia: People come from all over the world to go to Burning Man. We can provide a girl with three great outfits a day. Our summer festival season is very busy. Also during awards season. We have clothes for celebrities or the girl going to prom. Our clothes are inclusive. We pay just as much attention to the girl who is going to prom as the hip hop or rock and roll guys.
BLACK has drapey, deconstructed designs. You have to check out their innovative style. A look that is sort of Matrix meets Mad Max. Stop by and see Cosmo and Nathalia.
