The second week of dineL.A., we found Harold & Belle’s participated in dineL.A. If you like gumbo, you heard about this restaurant or you already have been there. The best New Orleans gumbo in Los Angeles!
Harold Legauz Sr. and his wife Mary Belle opened the restaurant in 1969, and now it is operated by 3rd generation husband and wife team Ryan and Jessica Legaux.
During this dineL.A., they offered take out and delivery. When I went there to pick up our order around 4:30pm, their parking was packed. I could see this restaurant was popular and loved by people in Los Angeles! We ordered at the window, so we had to wait about…a half hour to get the food. During we were waiting, customers were coming in and out to get their food! I couldn’t wait to taste the food!
Their dineL.A. menu, you get 1 choice of cocktail (Margarita or Hurricane), 1 choice of entrée (Filé Gumbo or Vegetarian Okra Gumbo) and Beignets for $35 per person.
I placed the food on my plate. Pre-buttered bread was also included. To tell the truth, I started eating beignets! They were airy fluffy and very soft. Yummmmmmy! The bread was soft and had a nice buttery flavor.
The Okra gumbo was mild taste and very good. Do you know that okra is a very healthy vegetable (fruit) that is high in fiber, which helps regulate the intestinal environment, and the gooey ingredient pectin in okra lowers cholesterol levels. Besides okra, they added tomatoes, onions, red peppers and celery in the gumbo.
Most customers order their Filé Gumbo with dark roux, ground sassafras, shrimp, sausage, ham, blue crab and chicken. Sounds good, right?
Other popular menu items here are Charbroiled Oysters, H&B’s Famous Seafood Platter and Jambalaya.
This restaurant has a nice patio, but hopefully soon we will be able to dine inside the restaurant and enjoy the Southern cuisine atmosphere.
