A Culinary Adventure at Mon Ami: A Taste of Vegan Delight in Santa Monica

(EXPERIENCE MAGAZINE) — Santa Monica, CA — In the heart of Santa Monica, right across from the picturesque beach and the bustling Third Street Promenade, lies a hidden gem known as Mon Ami. Recently, the Experience Magazine team, led by publisher Erwin and accompanied by Dustin and the talented Chef Daniel, embarked on a culinary journey that left us all in awe.

Tasty Moscow Mule

As we stepped into Mon Ami, the vibrant atmosphere immediately captivated us. With DJ music setting the perfect backdrop, we settled in, ready to explore the menu curated by chef Daniel. Our attentive server guided us through the offerings, and we decided to kick off our evening with some refreshing cocktails. Erwin opted for a classic Moscow Mule, while I chose the non-alcoholic Peroni raspberry drink, which was an absolute delight—sweet, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. To complement our drinks, we also sampled a chilled non-alcoholic beer that was crisp and satisfying.

The evening’s culinary adventure truly began with the appetizers. We shared the Hummus Bagan Tzatziki, a dish that showcased the incredible freshness of the produce. The hummus was creamy and flavorful, paired perfectly with warm, fluffy pita bread that invited us to indulge in every bite. It was an appetizer that set the stage for what was to come.

The Hummus and Baba ganoush were exceptional.

Next up was the star of the evening: the Vegan Gnocchi Genovese. Priced at $29, this dish featured potato dumplings tossed in a vibrant vegan broccolini-pesto sauce, adorned with mushrooms, crispy shallots, and a sprinkle of pistachios.

The Vegan Gnocchi is out of this world. We highly recommend it.

Chef Daniel personally introduced the dish, sharing his culinary vision and passion for creating a unique vegan experience. The gnocchi was nothing short of extraordinary. Each bite revealed a delightful contrast in textures, with just the right amount of crispiness from the shallots elevating the dish to new heights. It was a comforting yet sophisticated meal that showcased the creativity and skill of the kitchen.

Tasty Cocktails and ice cold Peroni beer.

As we savored our main course, Chef Daniel took the time to engage with us, discussing the ingredients and the inspiration behind his dishes. His warmth and enthusiasm for cooking were palpable, making the experience even more enjoyable.

The salad that Chef Daniel made was the best salad I’ve ever had.

To conclude our meal, Chef Daniel surprised us with a simple yet astonishing dessert—a bowl of fresh berries lightly coated in sugar. This unassuming dish turned out to be one of the best desserts we’ve ever tasted, a testament to the idea that sometimes, simplicity is key. The natural sweetness of the berries shone through, leaving us with a satisfying end to our meal.

The combination of innovative vegan dishes, a lively atmosphere, and the personal touch from Chef Daniel made it a night to remember. We left the restaurant with full bellies and happy hearts, already planning our next visit. For anyone in Santa Monica or planning a trip, I highly recommend checking out Mon Ami. It’s a culinary adventure you won’t want to miss!
