The Experience was recently invited to Lula Cocina Mexicana located on Main Street in Santa Monica. Chef and Owner, Geraldine Gilliand, has learned from the best regarding Mexican food. She is also known for her Beagle activism with the Beagle Freedom Project.
The interior of Lula is filled with art from Mexico and Day of the Dead murals. There is a festive feel to Lula. It is known as one of the liveliest spots in the neighborhood.
To start out at Lula, it is recommended to try one of their top shelf margaritas. The Cadillac Margarita is made with Jose Cuervo tequila and tastes great.
The first dish at Lula was the Shrimp Ceviche. This dish included Bay shrimp, red onion, lime juice, cilantro jalapeno, and avocado. It was delicious. It melts in your mouth. The visual presentation was excellent. This dish paired well with the tequila.
Next up was the Shrimp Tope. It was an Artesian salad and it was out of this world.
Again, the visual presentation was great. This dish was delicious.
The Cauliflower Nachos came and wow, what a great vegetarian appetizer. The cheese was just perfect. What a great dish.
The Green Corn Tamales should also be mentioned. These tamales have cheese and poblano chile strips. Served with rice and black beans. This is a delicious vegetarian entrée.
Finally, for desert, was the Vanilla Flan made with goat cheese. It was delicious. It is easily one of the best flan’s in Santa Monica.
To recap, the drinks at Lula are good and strong. The service and presentation here are awesome. If you’re a local or from out of town, stop by Lula Cocina Mexicana to try some of the freshest Mexican food in Los Angeles.
