New Culver City vegan takeout joint, Herbie Burger

New Culver City vegan takeout joint, Herbie Burger, bucks factory plant-based meat trend with house made veggie burgers, fried tofu chick’n tenders & crispy oyster mushroom sandwiches.

Herbie Burger opened at the beginning of August as a ghost kitchen in Culver City.

The menu features California inspired items including a mushroom and black bean burger patty, house made tofu chick’n tenders, crispy oyster mushroom sandwiches and a rotating menu of healthier sides like charred broccoli and veganized elote along with more decadent fries and tots.

Vegan founder Peter Williams – “Herbie Burger is meant to appeal to everyone, and especially those who are looking for a house-made alternative to the usual plant-based meat suspects. I want to demonstrate that vegan food is delicious, satisfying and nourishing. Eating is one of life’s great joys and nothing needs to be sacrificed when you choose to eat plant-based–not taste, nutrition, animals, or the environment.”

“People don’t want to have to sacrifice flavor and savory, indulgent vegan takeout and dining options can feel limited. It’s usually a choice of Impossible or Beyond burgers. While we’ve got no “beef” with Impossible or Beyond – we enjoy them on occasion ourselves – we wanted to replicate that same burger-ey deliciousness but with a homemade appeal. So we made our own savory patty with mushrooms and black beans that is meaty and delicious but with fewer, simpler ingredients. Then we thought hey, let’s see if we can do the same thing with plant-based chicken, so we created a tender that’s got a perfect texture and flavor, made from marinated tofu. Simple, yet delicious. For our last trick, we took the fried oyster mushroom sandwich up to level 10 deliciousness. We have both indulgent and healthier side options such as fries, mac n cheese and rotating vegetables including charred broccoli and vegan elote.”

Herbie Burger is currently open for pick up and delivery for lunch and dinner.
