The Los Angeles Business Journal (LABJ) recently held their 2014 Southern California Apparel Awards at the beautiful ocean side Casa Del Mar.

Southern California is the epicenter of fashion and style and home to some of the world’s most exclusive brands, and influences trends and styles throughout the apparel and fashion industry, so it made sense to have this awards ceremony to honor all these wonderful So Cal designers. This ceremony honored dynamic companies ranging from e-commerce to traditional retailers and manufacturers to wholesalers.

The LABJ acknowledged the top companies that led the way from categories such as apparel, denim, couture, activewear, swimwear and footwear.

The world of fashion, garments, apparel manufacturing and style design as a whole is unique in many ways – and here in Los Angeles, where we have some of the most fashion-forward and stylish people in the world, there’s perhaps an even more finely tuned set of rules for success. Stir in an unpredictable economy and you’ve got a sector of Southern California business that continues to evolve as swiftly as any other,” said Matthew A. Toledo, President and Publisher of LABJ.

The Social Responsibility Award went to Barco Uniforms, the Trendsetter Award went to Raj Manufacturing, LLC, the Industry Icon Award went to Ilse Metcheck of the California Fashion Association, the Public Company of the Year was American Apparel, the Private Company with 2013 revenue over 20 million was Revolve, and the Private Company with 2013 revenue under 20 million was Newchef Fashion, Inc.

We are excited about this event and the fact that there is an awards show to celebrate the talents of the apparel industry. Just to be nominated then named a finalist makes us speechless and we are humbled to be in the presence of finalists such as American Apparel and Henry Hanger, who has been in the apparel industry since the 1920’s,” said Karen Semien-McBride, Founder of SkinTone Clothing.

SkinTone Clothing has brought something fresh to the Los Angeles apparel scene and again we are humbled by the reception of our clothing line. We can only contribute the response, to the love we put into our line, it shows in the clothes,” added Semien-McBride.
